Honest limits
- Transparency only lives in PNG (or WebP). If you re-save the file as JPG anywhere in your workflow, the transparent area flattens to a solid color.
- A transparent PNG is usually larger than a flat JPG of the same photo — the alpha channel adds data, so expect bigger files for banners and large hero images.
- Very fine, translucent, or wispy edges (loose hair, mesh, glass, smoke) can leave soft or partial alpha that needs a quick manual touch-up.
